The
2006 White House Christmas Ornament The
2006 White House Christmas ornament honors President Chester A.
Arthur (1881–85). After serving for just six months as vice president
to James A. Garfield, Arthur assumed the presidency in September
1881 when Garfield was killed by an assassin's bullet. He brought
a luxurious style to the White House signaling the nation's return
to prosperity after the economic troubles of the late 1870s.
The design of the 2006 ornament is inspired by period motifs and
the rich decor of President Chester Arthur's White House. The North
Portico of the White House is depicted in the center beneath an
American bald eagle. The two translucent ovals that flank the center
depict American dogwood blossoms incorporated in a large screen
of red, white, and blue glass, which stood in the Entrance Hall
until the turn of the century. Naturalistic leaves comprise the
gold-plated outer wreath of the ornament and are derived from murals
painted in the Entrance Hall.

2005
Official White House Ornament The
2005 ornament honors President James A. Garfield. During his years
in office, President Garfield attacked political corruption and
restored a prestige that the presidency had lost during the Reconstruction
period.
The 2005 White house ornament is gold-plated brass with a round
ceramic stone that features an illustration based on a period engraving
of the South Front of the White House. The color scheme and highly
decorative wreath design are derived from art objects in the collection
at Lawnfield, the historic Garfield house in Mentor, Ohio. The JAG
monogram on the ornament was styled after Garfield’s inaugural ball
decorations, which now hang at Lawnfield. The pattern on the 2005
ornament box is based on high Victorian flocked wallpaper in the
Garfield house.
Measures 3" x 3 1/2" -- Sold Individually. Comes in Gift Box.

2004
Official White House Christmas Ornament The
2004 WHITE HOUSE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT honors President Rutherford
B. Hayes (1877-1881) and recreates a snowy scene of a sleigh in
winter on the North Lawn of the White House. President Hayes loved
the season, and wintry weather invigorated him. He enjoyed taking
his family and guests out on sleigh rides in the hills around Washington.
Laughter, mingled with the jingling of sleigh bells, filled the
crisp air of the White House grounds. The oval 3-dimensional ornament
sets a nostalgic holiday mood within a 24-carat, gold-finished brass
frame. The reverse shimmers with white snowflakes against an enameled,
royal blue sky. (3" x 3 1/2")

2002
Official White House Christmas Ornament The
crystal-like, acrylic core of the 2002 ornament recalls the sparkling
Bohemian glass of the elegant East Room chandeliers. The brass metal
decorative frame includes a holiday ribbon, acanthus leaves from
the East Room's Louis XVI style wall panels, and a sturdy eagle
inspired by the carved mahogany pedestals of the console tables
made for the State Dining Room by the firm of A.H. Davenport. The
box cover reproduces a portion of the decorative plaster of the
1902 East Room ceiling design.
Sold Individually. Come in Gift Box.
